Facial Treatments Against The Ticking Clock

It’s important to understand the ageing process of the face, so we can effectively treat it at every stage of your life.

The ‘ONSET, DEGREE, and SEQUENCE’ of ageing will vary upon a multiplicity of factors. These include ethnicity and genetic background, environmental conditions, behaviour, and overall quality of life including socioeconomic level.

Both intrinsic and extrinsic factors contribute to the ageing process.

  • Intrinsic factors include progressive bone remodelling, loss of facial fullness, and decreased tissue elasticity–the process of ageing.
  • Major extrinsic forces include gravity, hormonal imbalances, diet, smoking, and chronic solar exposure–contribute to ageing.

While each factor reflects its own respective changes, they combine dynamically to establish the TOTALITY of facial changes.

The Changes In Your Face

  • Foreheads expand as hairlines retreat.
  • Ears often get a bit longer because the cartilage in them grows, more so if you wear heavy earrings.
  • Tips of noses may droop because connective tissue supporting nasal cartilage weakens.

However when we’re young, fat in the face is evenly distributed, with small pockets distributed to plump up the forehead, temples, cheeks, and areas around the eyes and mouth. With ageing, the fat loses volume, clumps up, and slowly moves downward, so features that were once round sink, and skin that was smooth and tight, loosens and sags. Meanwhile, other parts of the face gain fat, particularly the lower half, so we tend to get baggy around the chin and jowly in the neck.

As such, wrinkles appear. The result of facial muscles continually tugging on, and eventually creasing, the skin. Other folds may get deeper because of the way fat decreases and moves around. Finer wrinkles are due to sun damage, smoking, and natural degeneration of elements of the skin that keep it thick and supple.

Even if you are blessed with great genes and look much younger than you are, age-related changes in our facial appearance are unavoidable.

So when considering facial rejuvenation, blending of the facial units is important in maintaining facial harmony. Failure to treat any one region can detract significantly from an otherwise exceptional result.

What You Need To Do

  • Protect: i.e., from UV exposure, environmental toxins–smoking, excess alcohol,  poor diet, etc.
  • Nourish internally: i.e., nutrition and hydration–and externally: i.e., moisturise and hydrate
  • Facial rejuvenating treatments–multi-layered treatments, light therapy: L.E.D.S, Ultrasonic stimulation, liposuction, dermabrasion, neurotoxins, fillers
